Citrix Streamlines the Windows App Experience on iPad and Android Devices with Citrix X1 Mouse

At Citrix, we’ve been helping people access and use business apps on any device for years. Yet many of our customers depend on Windows-based applications that are hard to use on iPad and Android tablets, because so many features depend on the point-and-click simplicity and accuracy of a physical mouse.

Since many people like to use an iPad, they get frustrated as they try to get work done, because no one offers a mouse that works with an iPad and other non-Windows devices.

That’s why we will be launching the X1 Mouse at Citrix Synergy next week on May 12. Capable of supporting iPads and iPhones, this is a unique Bluetooth Low Energy mouse (BTLE) with custom firmware that provides full-function mouse support to specific Citrix Mobile apps including Citrix Receiver, GoToMyPC, ShareConnect and WorkDesktop.

The Citrix X1 Mouse dramatically improves the user experience of any remote Windows app or desktop delivered to an iPad via Citrix and makes anyone more productive.

Drag and drop spreadsheet cells, resize PowerPoint graphics, click on small features of an EMR app; all of this becomes as real as if you were working on a desktop. Now, you truly can leave your laptop home (especially when coupled with a Bluetooth keyboard/case).

Today, millions of users prefer to travel with their iPads, but end up lugging their laptops around, too, just in case some heavy editing or document creation is required.

No more, now the iPad is all it takes.

In fact, the X1 Mouse even supports the iPhone, which can now be connected to a larger display via HDMI/VGA cable or Airplay, providing the truly mobile workspace in your pocket. A new Presentation Mode feature in the latest version of Receiver also turns the iPad or iPhone display into a keyboard & touchpad when sending remote video output to a larger display.

The X1 Mouse also means flexibility for IT. IT gets the benefit of the security of XenApp regardless of whether the device is corporate-issued or BYOD. For users, it means no more compromise when they want to get work done on an iPad. Maybe the corporate-issued laptop is no longer necessary for many categories of employees, including everyone who will be happier with an iPad.

We first released the X1 Prototype mouse in January at our Summit event to collect user input and validate the demand. The response has been awesome. Across the board, we are seeing positive feedback from organizations large and small that want the mobility of an iPad, the security of XenApp and the User Experience that consumers expect.

I liked Gabe’s reaction on BrianMadden.com:

“ I didn’t expect to be as blown away as I am when using it. This thing is really, really great!

And he is not alone in that opinion.

We have had others in large IT organizations predict a 10X increase in XenApp mobile usage once they implement the X1 Mouse and the feedback continues. Based on these results, we have now productized the X1 Mouse along with an updated iOS Receiver 5.9.5. This does not signal Citrix’s entry into the Mouse business, but it does indicate that if we can innovate and provide a unique experience that benefits our customers, we won’t be limited by traditional boundaries.
