Hopefully many of you have been following our XenApp and XenDesktop blog series in the last month. If you’re just catching up, this series focuses on common use cases engineers are working to solve on the new Flexcast architecture.

Heading into Synergy this week, we have one more blog on the topic of application folders (app folders). As XenApp customers start to migrate to XenApp 7.5 on the FMA architecture, many of you reached out to us about how to best organize the 10’s, 100’s or 1000’s of applications you have in your deployments. XenApp 7.5 today, as with XenDesktop 7 App edition, uses the concept of tags to enable admins to tags & search applications published to users.

While that (using tags) is OK for some, many commented you would prefer a way to organize applications in folders, like in XenApp – so that you have a visual representation of applications in a logical grouping that fits for your organization.

That said, I want to share with a few UI we’re working towards. With help from our Product Design team and feedback from some customers & partners, I would say we’re making good progress! Keep in mind the folders on the new architecture is to help admins organize applications in a logical grouping, and it’s not for administrative purposes like in XenApp 6.5 and earlier. I.e., delegated administration is managed outside of the application folder.

If you are at Citrix Synergy in Anaheim this week, stop by the expo hall and look for the XenDesktop & XenApp pod, where you’ll see many of the capabilities demonstrated. We’ll have product managers, engineering managers and architects here to answer questions & feedback you have.
