We just posted a StoreFront update that will appeal to almost everyone and we advise upgrading as soon as possible.

Not only can you now deploy StoreFront on Windows Server 2012 R2, StoreFront 2.1 improves:

  • firewall services and .Net 4.0  interactions
  • SAN Certificate use
  • subscription replication in  server groups
  • session pre-launch operation with Receiver for Windows Enterprise (with XA 6.5)

and includes the latest Receiver for HTML5 which enables URL redirection.

These updates plus the removal of the external database requirement with the 2.0 version are great reasons to upgrade  2.0 and 1.2 deployments.

As a reminder, StoreFront is the successor to Web Interface. StoreFront works with XenDesktop, XenApp, and VDI-in-a-Box  for virtual app and desktop delivery…and works in conjunction with XenMobile to provide mobile device  access to Windows apps/desktops.   StoreFront 2.0 is an integral component of XenDesktop 7 but can be used with XenApp and XenDesktop 5.5 and above…and any XenMobile deployment.

StoreFront is designed to deliver virtual desktops and applications to virtually any computing device – desktops, thin clients, tablets and smart phones…any device…many more devices than Web Interface. All that is required is a suitable Citrix Receiver….or an HTML5-compatible browser.

There is a lot more you can do with StoreFront than Web Interface.  You can provide an enterprise app store, you can mobilize your apps, you can improve security, you can simplify your deployment, and you can optimize and scale out XenDesktop deployments.

As always  we look forward to your feedback on this latest update.
