Avaya has announced General Availability of their optimized Unified Communications solution for Citrix XenDesktop, Avaya VDI Communicator. As I explained in a previous blog post on HDX RealTime technologies, using a softphone that is optimized for VDI results in higher server scalability because the media processing is handled by the user device. This also ensures uncompromised audio quality and optimal bandwidth efficiency. Avaya’s new solution enhances the delivery of the one-X Communicator softphone from XenDesktop 5.x, providing significant benefits to customers who use the Aura Communication Manager. The solution has been validated with various thin clients from HP and Dell-Wyse as well as repurposed PCs. One of its unique features is a fallback “Session Down UI” that allows continued use of the softphone even if the network connection to the XenDesktop server goes down or there is a failure in the data center.
