OpenStack Essex has recently been released and of course it supports both XenServer and XCP. During Essex Citrix has spent a lot of time improving the XenServer support. Moreover, we plan to continue our efforts around improving OpenStack’s XenServer support in the Folsom time frame.

Now is a good time to take a look at some of what Citrix has done for OpenStack Essex:
- Added support for Security groups and Firewall rules when using XenServer
- Added Host Aggregates, and it allows you to build a XenServer pool using OpenStack, to enable Live Migration using shared storage in Folsom
- Added XenServer Storage Manager Integration, accessing volumes using XenServer’s Storage Manager
- Made Fast Cloning work when using XenServer
- Helped improve support for XenServer in DevStack, including producing a video guide
- Much work on Quantum, including help make Quantum work with XenServer
- Started to improve the documentation around XenServer
Many others have also spent a lot of time improving the XenServer support. A big thank you to all of you! Also a big thank you to all who are deploying and testing OpenStack with XenServer and XCP.
